First Plus loan protection

If you have a secured loan taken out through First Plus you may also have some form of loan insurance or payment protection cover. This type of cover is controversial because it has been widely mis-sold.

Below is a list of common ways in which customers have been mis sold payment protection. If any of these circumstances relate to you, you may be entitled to make payment protection claims.

  • Where you told you had to have the cover? This is not true. If you were told this you were given the wrong information and your First Plus loan protection policy may have been mis-sold.
  • Where you told taking out the cover would improve your chance of being approved for the loan? This is also not true. Your loan approval would be based solely on your financial circumstances and your credit rating.
  • Were you sold the cover without the full costs being explained? In order for you to make an informed choice, your lender should have given you full information regarding the cost of your cover. If this did not happen you could make a claim.
  • Were you sold the policy without the full terms and conditions being made clear? Again, in order to make an informed decision, your lender should have given you full information regarding the policy’s terms, conditions and exemptions.
  • Were you in full time education, retired or unemployed at the time of sale? Loan protection cover insures a policyholder against loss of employment, if you were not employed you should not have been offered this cover.
  • Were you aged over 65? Most PPI policies do not offer cover to customers over the age of 65 and if you were sold a policy you may be ineligible to use it.
