PPI Charges: UK economy set to recover

The UK economy is on the road to recovery, an expert has claimed.

Despite official figures showing that the UK failed to exit the recession, Hetal Mehta from the economic forecasters Ernst & Young ITEM Club said that there is "little doubt" the UK is heading in the right direction.

"Given the size of the output falls we had at the beginning of last year the worst is definitely behind us," she said.

"I do think that going forward we will probably see gross domestic product increase in quarter four; I would like to say it was a dead cert but people were proved wrong in quarter three."

Ms Mehta went on to add that any recovery would be "quite slow".

Figures from the Office for National Statistics published on October 22nd showed that the UK's GDP had fallen by 0.4 per cent in the third quarter of 2009.

Many were shocked by the news as it has been widely predicted that there would be a small growth
