Credit card charges could be set to increase after Christmas

More than three in ten credit card users don't expect to pay their outstanding balance for six months after Christmas, new research by MoneySupermarket has found.

Coupled with the expected rises in credit card charges in the New Year, this could mean that for many people Christmas shopping could end up costing much more than they had planned for.

A Nintendo Wii with Wii fit could cost up to 9.4 per cent more if the credit card balance used to fund its purchase is not paid back within a year.

Anyone who thinks they have been charged too much for their credit card or falsely sold credit card payment protection insurance can take steps to resolve this by making a credit card claim.

Cheaper and traditional toys are expected to be a hit for children's gifts this festive season.
