Lloyds bins bank claims

Lloyds Banking Group has asked courts to dismiss claims against it for bank refunds after this week's Supreme Court decision which upheld bank claims against consumers.

The firm has contacted county courts in England and Wales and sheriff courts in Scotland to dismiss any outstanding claims, the BBC reports.

Following Wednesday's ruling by the Supreme Court, representatives of the judiciary said that it was up to banks or the claimants themselves to withdraw cases from local courts.

There are thousands of cases relating to bank charges in the legal system which have been on hold since the summer of 2007. The Financial Ombudsman Service has said that after this week's ruling it will dismiss many cases on its books.

Earlier this week the British Bankers' Association welcomed the Supreme Court decision.
