Bank claim: Bank conman jailed

A man used publicly-available details to spy on people and access their bank accounts as part of a major fraud, the Scotsman reports.

Kevin Greenhill used public records to find out the maiden names of people's mothers and where they first went to school and used this information to gain control of bank accounts.

He used the information to get past bank's security questions over the phone.

The gambling addict then posed as a customer who had lost his card at bank branches.

In one five day period, he was able to take £7,000, but was arrested after a bank employee noticed his forged signature.

Greenhill has now been jailed having been sentenced for two years after a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, in which he pleaded guilty to 13 counts of bank fraud.
