Bank Charges: Banks warned over mis-selling accounts

Earlier this week the Financial Services Authority (FSA) slammed the banks for mis-selling package accounts, an opinion that has been shared by the leading UK consumer watchdog.

A spokesperson for Which? said that package accounts are concerning in that they do not offer value for money to the consumer and may contain hidden charges and unnecessary add-ons.

"One of the reasons for this is you are unlikely to use all of the benefits that they offer, so they are of little use. Another reason is that they might say you get these things included worth a certain monetary value," he claimed.

In many cases, benefits such as fraud protection and insurance claim to hold a fiscal worth, but the Which? spokesperson said it is impossible to evaluate the financial value of such extras, regardless of how useful they are to the consumer.

His comments come after the FSA's Financial Risk Outlook report found that items such as add-on insurance in package.
