Bank charges: Fat bonus for Lloyds boss

Eric Daniels, chief executive of the Lloyds Banking Group, could reap more than £6 million this year from the taxpayer-funded bank.

That is because he could be offered as much as 275 per cent of his annual £1.03 million salary under a new performance scheme, after waiving his £2.3 million bonus for the year following a public backlash.

This would be on top of his £2.3 million annual bonus, bringing Mr Daniels' potential pay packet to £6.2 million for the year.

Lloyds is nearly half-owned by the government after it required a massive bailout due to its exposure to bad debts, but that hasn't stopped the bank increasing the maximum limit for bonuses beyond 200 per cent of annual salaries, the level at which it was capped last year.

It says that an increase in this limit is required if the bank is to continue offering competitive salaries.
