PPI claim: Consumers to access £2 credit report

UK consumers will now be able to access their credit report for £2 from the three biggest credit reference agencies.

Experian, Equifax, and Callcredit will now charge the nominal fee for the service after reaching an agreement with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Victims of ID fraud and the financially vulnerable will be able to access credit reports for free.

Peter Vicary-Smith, Which? chief executive, welcomed the announcement.

He said: "This should provide a quicker and more convenient access for consumers to their credit file, and could encourage more people to check their file more regularly. This is a welcome initiative in the battle against fraud and the elimination of faulty data."

Credit reports outline a consumer's financial history and details any present financial commitments.

Customers may be denied the best-rate deals or a bank loan if they have a poor credit history.
