Bank claims: Natwest charter is a 'farce'

Natwest's customer charter has been deemed a farce by an ex-employee of the firm, it has been revealed.

The firm pledges to be 'Britain's most helpful bank' by extending opening hours at busy branches and maintaining services where it is the only bank in the community.

However, Derek French, a former Natwest area manager, claimed that it is also closing small branches and reducing opening hours at rural branches.

He told thisismoney.co.uk: "Closing branches is hardly helpful banking. The customer charter is a farce as far as many customers are concerned."

Opening hours have been cut at three Natwest branches in the Welsh county of Montgomeryshire this year.

Outlets in Llanfair Caereinion and Llanidloes are only open one day a week, while the Montgomery store is only open for one day a week.

Last week, the firm shut its branch in Sawston, Cambridgeshire as it claims it offered limited services and was not used regularly.
