PPI claim: A&L customers 'unable' to access accounts following transfer

Former Alliance and Leicester (A&L) customers are unable to access their accounts, according to reports.

Financial website has revealed that numerous ex-A&L customers have been affected as their old accounts are transferred over to Santander.

The Spanish bank are still in the process of transferring around five million accounts over to its own systems after the firm secured a takeover deal for A&L in 2008.

Some savings account holders have been completely unable to access cash from internet-only accounts, while others are forced to use telephone or in-branch services.

Brenda O'Brien, a former customer with the bank, contacted the website to reveal the issues he has had following Santander's takeover.

He said: "For more than four weeks my savings account has been frozen and shows on the internet as 'unavailable', no balance is shown and I am unable to transfer money to/from this account without telephoning them."

A spokesman for Santander has apologised for the incident and claimed the firm are currently working to address the issue.
