PPI Claim: Customer accuses Natwest of mis-selling account

A Natwest customer has taken action against the bank because he believes he was mis-sold the Natwest Gold Account.

London based Jonathan Smith was told by the bank that he could save money by cancelling his standalone mobile phone and travel insurance and switching to this new account, reports Citywire.

As Mr Smith owned an expensive iPhone, he was careful to question the mobile phone insurance that the account offered, but was told he was covered for loss, theft and damage.

However, after accidentally losing the device on a train, Natwest refused to cover the phone because his behaviour was "reckless".

Mr Smith said he was very careful to question the level of mobile phone cover provided and was assured by the Natwest salesman that he would be insured for loss, theft and damage.

He told the news provider: "It adds weight to the opinion that modern banks are incentivising their staff in a way which encourages at best poor value and at worst, deception."

Following the intervention of Citywire, Natwest refunded Mr Smith the cost of his phone.
