Loan protection: Debt 'a growing problem'

Debt is an ongoing, growing problem and although debt charities are making extra efforts to try to meet the demands and needs of consumers, the problem can never be fully satisfied.

That is according to Annie Shaw, editor of, a website that allows members of the public to ask a question about personal finance and have it answered free of charge by an expert.

Ms Shaw said: "Many people are really suffering with higher prices of things like fuel and petrol and the rise in VAT.

"Any further initiatives are always to be welcomed because [debt] is an ongoing and growing problem so the need can never be fully satisfied because it is such a growing problem."

Her comments follow an announcement by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, which revealed it is to launch a new service, providing additional assistance to vulnerable people who are struggling with debt.
