Loan charges: Millions in UK believe standard of living has declined

Over 30 million people in the UK believe that their standard of living has declined since the start of the credit crunch in 2007, research has revealed.

Scottish Provident's Financial Safety Net report has also found that 36 per cent of Brits believe their own standard of living will decline either slightly or significantly by 2013.

Susan Barclay, head of marketing at Scottish Provident, said: "The last few years have hit many Britons hard, and our figures have underlined how people are generally not showing much optimism ahead of the start of 2013, as the austerity measures proposed by the coalition government begin to take effect."

She added that people should ensure they have a financial safety net in place should something happen that would affect their living standard.

Research revealed that 58 per cent of people do not have any form of protection product in place in case their financial situation changed.
