Credit card charges: Sixth of Brits 'does no financial planning'

One in six Brits do not do any financial planning, which may result in them incurring credit card charges.

Research by Standard Life has found that a proportion of people in Britain live for the moment rather than the long term, with 17 per cent not planning their financial futures at all.

The study showed that 45 per cent of people plan our finances for a year ahead and just 22 per cent of people plan up to five years into the future.

Bruce Kelsall, group and UK marketing director at Standard Life, said: "People are completely comfortable making financial plans for a summer holiday; planning and investing in your future is no different.

"People may have to finance their lifestyle up to the age of 90 or even longer … Even the smallest actions now can have a dramatic effect on your long term finances."

Regionally, people in London were most likely to plan their financial futures, while people in Scotland were least likely.
