Bank charges: Cost of weddings drops

Engaged couples having trouble with bank charges may be pleased to hear that the average cost of weddings has gone down.

Research by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks has revealed that the average cost of a wedding has dropped by £4,000 as couples become more creative with how to fund their big day.

Steve Reid, retail director for Clydesdale Bank said: "It's great to see that savvy savers are maximising savings accounts to make the most of their hard earned cash and that they understand how to make their savings work harder."

Findings showed that almost 30 per cent of Brits would cut down their guest list in order to lower costs.

Eight per cent of brides also said that they would be prepared to buy their wedding dress off eBay.

The research revealed that the average couple now spend £16,569 on their wedding day.

Jasmine Birtles, from, recently said that getting married abroad can be cheaper because fewer guests can attend.
