PPI claims: Shopping around can save hundreds on insurance premiums

Unwanted PPI cover may have left many people weary of taking out insurance policies, but for those that are essential, cover does not need to break the bank.

According to, the advent of the internet has made it much easier for people to save hundreds of pounds on annual premiums by shopping around.

Jasmine Birtles, founder of the financial advice site, said that insurance companies rely on their customers' lack of drive to find a better deal in order to maintain profit margins.

"Insurance companies make huge profits and it's pretty rare for them to bring their prices down considerably," she said.

"Literally you can save hundreds of pounds on one insurance product by shopping around."

She was speaking after markettiers4DC published research indicating that more than half (65 per cent) of British people believe companies should refund some money if customers do not make a claim on their insurance.
