Bank charges: Economic impact has been 'uneven'

The economic impact has been uneven, with some people perhaps having incurred more bank charges than others.

That is according to Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), a national debt charity, which made these claims following the release of a new report, Bankrupt Britain: An Atlas of Social Change.

A geographical breakdown of insolvency, earnings and child poverty statistics has unveiled the uneven impact of the economic downturn.

Delroy Corinaldi, CCCS external affairs director, said: "There is no doubt that while, 'We are all in this together' may be true to a certain extent, some people are in far deeper than others, often through no fault of their own."

He added that it is important to help victims of the economic downturn and to find out where support is needed most.

The charity also noted it is worried that a number of people struggling with debt end up paying for advice because they do not know that free help is available.

As part of the statistics, the CCCS has created a geographical breakdown of the areas worst affected by debt.
