Bank charges: Debt can drain your energy, expert claims

Consumers currently facing bank charges may well feel exhausted, as one expert has said debt drains people's energy.

Joanne Mallon, a life and career coach who has featured in a number of national publications, explained that it is worrying about debt that makes people feel run down.

She said: "When people worry, they're not necessarily dealing with the situation as it is, they're dealing with what they fear might happen and we all conjure ideas in our mind and fears about how terrible things are going to be.

"You're thinking 'am I going to lose my house, is it all going to go horribly wrong?'"

Ms Mallon advised people with debt problems to write down their income and their outgoings, and then plan what to do about the problem.

She noted that consumers who worry and feel stressed are not in a good position to deal with their debt problems properly.
