Credit card charges: Brits 'fail to budget for summer'

Many Brits may end up facing credit card charges this summer because they did not budget for the season adequately.

According to research by M&S Money, 40 per cent of holidaymakers do not budget for their summer trip, despite 32 per cent saying they plan to spend more on their holiday this year.

James Yerkess, head of Travel Money at M&S Money, said: "The summer holiday is the one time of the year when people really relax and enjoy themselves so it's easy to get carried away and overspend, but this can easily be avoided by putting together a simple budget for your holiday essentials and then you'll know how much you've get left to splurge on those holiday luxuries."

Findings revealed that ten per cent of holidaymakers who do not budget say they cannot plan ahead because they do not know the cost of everyday items.

Another 14 per cent say they don't budget because they feel they do not have to, as a holiday is their one luxury of the year.
