Bank refunds: Social networks 'to become very important to banks'

Consumers may find they can discover information about bank refunds through social networks in the future.

This is because Lawrence Gold, financial expert, has said that social networks are to become very important to banks.

He said: "I don't necessarily want to go into a bank branch; I want to be able to do it at my desk or at home."

Mr Gold explained that going into a bank branch takes time, as does phoning someone in a call centre.

"Wouldn't it be nicer if you are online and you've got a query, you can click on a button that says 'online help' and speak to a manager?"

He conceded that it is not always good to do everything online, but noted that video conferencing could be used, as most people have webcams.

According to Mr Gold, videoconferencing would be a "fantastic idea" for banks and customers alike.
