PPI refunds: Cost of back-to-school spending revealed

Parents could find PPI refunds come in handy over the next few weeks as the total bill mums and dads face paying for back-to-school items has been revealed.

Research by insurance firm LV= revealed that parents across the country are set to fork out £736 million on items such as uniforms and stationery.

In order to combat rising prices, 53 per cent of parents are planning to buy 'budget' uniforms.

Parents will spend an average of £77 on back-to-school goods per child.

Mark Jones, LV= head of protection, said: "Parents are under a great deal of pressure to spend significant amounts on kitting their kids with the latest bags and coats, and brand new uniforms and stationery.

"Although we can see that parents are attempting to be frugal, these costs seem to keep going up."

He added that while £77 may not seem excessive, it is just one small part of the cost of raising a family.
