PPI refunds: Tenth of Brits 'plan to never retire'

Brits who are awaiting PPI refunds may be among those who are not planning to retire at all.

Research by global investment firm Baring Asset Management revealed that while a tenth plan to never retire, a further 378,000 intend to give up work over the age of 71.

On top of this, over a third (36 per cent) were unable to say at what age they think they might be able to retire.

Marino Valensise, chief investment officer at Barings, said: "It is apparent that the outlook for those planning their retirement is very uncertain for many people.

"We have seen the cost of living continue to rise, making retirement more expensive and resulting in many more people having to put retirement off for a few more years."

He added that increased longevity coupled with people not saving enough will mean the trend for people working over the age of 65 will continue to increase.
