PPI Refunds: Credit 'can make consumers pay'

Loan refunds may a good alternative to expensive credit for shoppers looking to find extra financial resources to help them enjoy a pleasant Christmas period.

According to new research from the comparison site Moneysupermarket.com, lots of consumers are worried about the expense of Christmas this year due to increasing inflation levels.

If people use credit cards to help pay for gifts and other festive products that total £500, they could still be paying for the purchases in more than 11 years time.

The site made the calculation surmising consumers used a typical credit card and made the minimum monthly payment.

"It can take a few weeks from application to receive your new card, so people should start doing their homework now and avoid last minute panic," said MoneySupermarket.com's head of banking Kevin Mountford.

An earlier study by the site revealed 60 per cent of people living in the UK were worried about funding Christmas this year – a figure that had increased by 15 per cent since 2010.
