PPI Claims: Insulation 'is a must this winter'

Payment protection refunds could help people who are experiencing financial pressures this Christmas ensure they have enough money to avoid potential household disasters.

The money from a loan claim could be used to pay for insulation that could prevent water pipes bursting as the temperatures fall.

"Last winter was hard for us all but for many it was made much worse by having to deal with frozen and burst water pipes," said the chair of the Consumer Council for Water Dame Yve Buckland.

Homeowners leaving their house uninhabited for a few days should also ensure they set their heating to automatically turn itself on to help prevent the water in the pipes turning into ice.

The group was established in 2005 and has since helped water customers claim for more than £13 million in refunds and compensation from providers.

Recent research from found one in four households stated they could not afford to switch their heating on.
