easyJet 'will still issue credit card charges'

Budget airline easyJet has moved to increase the transparency surrounding its booking fees, but it will continue to issue credit card charges.

The government had recently called for airlines to issue fewer hidden fees that only appear once a customer has already been lured into purchasing a flight with the promise of cheap rates.

Previously, passengers who wished to pay for flights online with their debit card were forced to pay an additional booking surcharge.

In order to appease the government, easyJet bosses have introduced an administration fee of £9 that will be added to the overall cost of a flight much earlier in the buying process.

However, bosses also revealed that credit card holders will still be hit with a fee that will cover handling costs.

"These changes have been made in order to address the concerns raised by consumer bodies and regulators across the European Union," an easyJet statement read.

Last week, easyJet launched a discount sale on up to 25 million seats on some of its services in 2012.
