Gamblers will incur credit card charges with Barclaycard

Barclaycard is to impose credit card charges on people who use their account for the purpose of gambling.

From May 28th, the transactions will be treated as cash exchanges instead of purchases, which will result in users incurring a 2.99 per cent fee with a minimum of £2.99.

This will increase the cost of a £10 bet by almost 30 per cent.

It is thought this will include internet betting and the purchase of lottery tickets.

Furthermore, from this time bank charges for cash withdrawals will rise due to a change to fees.

Anyone taking out money using their card will have to pay a 2.99 per cent single fee at a minimum of £2.99, compared with the current figure of 2.5 per cent.

Barclaycard customers can benefit from free text alerts, which inform customers that a monthly payment is due five days before the transaction occurs.

Barclays claims this helps individuals to avoid late payment charges.
