Bank claims: Stress 'causes physical and mental illness'

People who are anxious because of loan charges, credit card claims and other financial issues could be damaging their physical and mental wellbneing.

Kim Stephenson, occupational psychologist and author of Taming the Pound: Making Money Your Servant, Not Your Master, argued the human body was not made to deal with "ongoing, low level stress".

Instead, it evolved so it could identify a threat, before fighting it or escaping and returning to normal within an hour.

"You can't run and hide from a foreclosure order," he declared.

When people are feeling anxiety for a long period of time, their body and brain chemistry will remain unbalanced for several months, the specialist pointed out.

This can result in problems such as difficulty digesting foods, headaches, insomnia, accidents, depression and susceptibility to minor illnesses, Mr Stephenson continued. explained humans release adrenaline when they feel under pressure, which causes blood to flow to muscles and is linked to a number of health complaints.
