Bank charges: Taking action 'saves more money than worrying'

People who are concerned about loan charges and other economic issues could be less likely to succeed than those who proactively engage with their finances, new research has indicated.

The National Savings and Investments (NS&I) Saving Survey revealed members of the public who invest their time in financial planning typically save £104.30 every month, whereas this figure is just £53.47 among those who worry.

As a result of this, so-called 'planners' save £600 more than 'worriers' every year, which could help consumers avoid credit card charges and other expenses.

Furthermore, 75 per cent of all Brits worry about money at least once every year, while 25 per cent feel guilty because they fail to look to the future and therefore spend more cash than they should.

"If you're getting money worries, take some time out to review the situation and take action," NS&I Savings spokesperson John Prout said.

The National Health Service states while it is natural to worry about important issues, it is possible for people's concerns to negatively impact their whole life or cause their thinking patterns to become less rational.
