PPI refunds: Police warning over bogus calls

A bogus caller telephoned a woman and told her she was entitled to receive a four-figure sum in bank charges.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary noted the female hung up the phone after giving the caller some of her details.

It has warned members of the public to be wary of any communication like this and to avoid giving any banking or personal information to people they do not know.

Furthermore, recipients of suspicious calls ought to take down as many things about the caller as they can, such as their contact number, name and the department they say they are from.

They should then terminate the conversation and hand their information to the police, as well as visit the website of the company to find out if the caller was accurate.

"Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is," the police force remarked.

"Threatening or abusive calls are a crime and if we can trace the people responsible they will be reported," operation commander for Galloway chief inspector Irvine Watson recently said.
