Bank claims: Nottinghamshire residents 'should cut fuel bills with insulation'

Nottinghamshire residents who are struggling to cope with credit card charges or bank claims may wish to have their home insulated for free, which could help them to save money.

The county council has reminded people in the region they do not necessarily have to pay for lagging if they fund the upgrade through the Warmstreets initiative.

However, this scheme concludes at the end of 2012.

Loft insulation can cut fuel bills by up to £175 every year, with an additional £135 saved when wall spaces are filled, the Energy Saving Trust claims.

Councillor Richard Butler, Nottinghamshire County Council's cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said members of the public ought to "take advantage of this offer while they can".

As well as minimising a household's fuel bills and make their home easier to heat, the upgrades "will also reduce the impact that heating their homes has on the environment", he remarked.
