PPI claim scammers operating in Humberside

Humberside Police have issued a warning about a scam operating in the area that involves telephone callers purporting to come from payment protection insurance (PPI) claim management firms.

Members of the public are being contacted by people who tell the victim they are entitled to a PPI refund, as the product had been added to a loan claim they had made.

The criminals say they will send someone round with a cheque containing their PPI claim, but ask for a Ukash voucher before the payment protection insurance refund will be received.

Officers are warning people not to be convinced by these cold-callers, adding that members of the public should also not give personal or banking details to strangers.

Ukash stated fraudulent use of its voucher codes frequently involve promises of money for limited effort, such as through bank charges, loans or lotteries.

Furthermore, any deal that sounds "too good to be true" is also likely to be a scam, the firm warned.
