Credit card claims: Bank bills 'are the least complicated'

While consumers may hate looking at their credit card charges and the interest on their loan claims, research from has revealed people generally believe they understand them.

The study found credit card and mortgage companies, banks and digital television providers send people the least complicated bills.

However, bills from energy suppliers are found more confusing than those of any other firm by 82 per cent of respondents.

While 86 per cent say they are too complicated, 71 per cent argue they cannot find all of the information they require from these receipts, while 76 per cent say the bills contain too much jargon.

Julia Kendell, an interior designer and television presenter, recently advised homeowners to buy modern efficient appliances to reduce their outgoings on gas and electricity.

"Consumers are spending thousands of pounds a year on household bills - the least they should expect is for them to be easy to understand," director of consumer policy at Ann Robinson said.
