PPI charges: Brits in relationships 'save more money'

Single Brits could be more likely to struggle to meet credit card charges and pay off loan claims than those who are in a relationship, a study has indicated.

National Savings & Investments' (NS&I) most recent Savings Survey found British people with a partner save approximately £800 more every year than those without one.

Men typically manage to set aside £85 more every month than they otherwise would have, with this figure dropping to £50 among females.

Furthermore, 57 per cent of couples stated they motivate each other to accumulate cash, although 11 per cent of males and 15 per cent of women admit the reason for this is because of the poor financial practices of the other person.

The average Brit manages to save £87 every month, while 64 per cent of Britons aged 16 or over have moved in with their partner and a further nine per cent are living apart from their lover.

"These savings will make a difference for the bigger financial milestones that come during a relationship, like buying a home or saving for life in retirement," director of NS&I John Prout said.
