Loan claims: Brits 'should choose fixed-price energy plan'

Brits who are struggling to deal with energy bills may wish to change their tariff now, before they are forced to make loan claims in the winter.

According to, only a ScottishPower plan and EDF energy provide fixed prices without early-exit penalties.

Furthermore, it pointed out that both of these offerings are in 'best-buy' tables, which indicates that their tariffs will be competitive and could help people to avoid incurring bank charges when paying their utility bills.

SSE recently revealed it plans to increase its gas and electricity prices by nine per cent from October 15th, although it admitted this will cause some people to fall into fuel poverty.

Following this revelation, claimed that a "flurry of customers" took the opportunity to protect themselves from further rises in gas and electricity bills by attempting to secure fixed-price deals.

"Consumers who want to fix their energy prices cannot afford to hang around - these deals are flying off the shelves and could be pulled at any time," energy expert for the price comparison site Tom Lyon said.
