'Reclaim credit card charges' when buying shoddy goods online

People buying goods online could reclaim credit card charges if there are problems with the purchase.

This is according to a guidance document created by Blackhair Magazine using tips from the Financial Ombudsman Service, which noted this payment protection does not apply to every circumstance.

If members of the public have any problems, they should discuss these with their card provider, it continued.

However, credit card refunds can often be received when goods do not reach the agreed standard or do not arrive at all, the publication noted.

It also highlighted the dangers posed through phishing emails and other scams, as these can result in people incurring fraudulent bank charges.

Unless a person is "certain the request is genuine", they should not provide banking details, dates of birth, addresses or other personal details over the internet, Blackhair Magazine asserted.

"If in doubt, don't give it out," it warned, stating: "There are lots of phishing scams doing the rounds."
