Credit card charges: EDF Energy customers to be hit by price hike Friday

This Friday (December 7th) EDF Energy customers will be hit by planned price hikes, increasing their utility bills by around £120 a year.

The 10.8 per cent gas and electricity price increase is to cause the average bill to go from £1,202 to £1,332 a year, leaving consumers with less money to cover other expenditures, such as credit card charges.

EDF Energy will be the last of the big six suppliers to introduce a price increase this side of Christmas.

"The high cost of energy is already burning a hole in consumers' pockets and this winter's price hikes will only serve to make the situation worse," said Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at

"Families face a ticking time bomb - all it will take is a plunge in the temperature for them to feel the full brunt of these higher prices."

EDF Energy's price increases still leave it the second cheapest energy supplier, behind E.ON, which has frozen its prices for the rest of the year.
